How to Add Banner Ads in WordPress Pages & Posts

Quick Summary

  • The Advanced Ads plugin manages banner ads in one place, so changing a banner doesn't mean editing every post that shows it.
  • Insert an ad with its the_ad shortcode and ID, using a Shortcode block in the block editor or pasting it in the classic editor.
  • Placements can insert ads automatically, for example before or after the post content, so you skip the shortcode on each post.

The Advanced Ads – Ad Manager & AdSense plugin lets you create banner ads in the WordPress admin and place them in any page or post. The ads are managed in one place, so changing a banner later doesn’t mean editing every post that shows it.

Add an ad to a post or page

Install and activate Advanced Ads, then create a new ad from its menu in the admin. Choose the ad type, for a simple banner an image ad, set it up and publish it.

Each ad can be inserted with a shortcode that contains its ID. The example below uses [the_ad id="3233"], where 3233 is the ad’s ID; replace it with the ID of your own ad. In the block editor, paste the shortcode into a Shortcode block; in the classic editor, paste it where the banner should appear. To show an ad inside an ACF Text or Textarea field, enable shortcodes in ACF fields first.

Besides shortcodes, Advanced Ads can insert ads automatically through placements, for example before or after the post content, so you don’t have to add the shortcode to every post.
